Still finding ways to sculpt the sounds from the IRCAM technologies of RAVE and Somax2. I found a great way to get Somax to jam with my wavetable synth, and I am so pleased! Working with speakers and a sensitive DPA microphone, and the fzero object at threshold = 0, I could just let it run and that could be a piece on its own, almost.

The basic scheme is to have 3 sections of 2 minutes each: intro - poem - outro, where the intro and outro are instrumental, and I am speaking during the poem. Am realizing I have to take some of the instrumental material from Somax, because it does sometimes get repetitive and make recognizable gestures. So I preempt it by playing similar gestures first. I know I can get Somax to record me and play along that way, but I have a particular piccolo sound through pvc that I want to keep - and I want to keep the feedback loop of feeding the audio influencer from RAVE (albeit transposed and delayed).

RAVE was being a bit of a nuicance - some of the interesting latent spaces were too generative/reactive, so I ended up slaping a fluid.ampgate and adsr onto it, now it seems more natural like speaking or playing rather than blabbering on. Did some very fine tuning with the spaces for each section, I've got that all set up on a timer with a line object to trigger the movements on the xy plane.

During the poem, I am starting to not like the RAVE voice - although it sounds so cool. I'm just not sure it fits anymore, so maybe I will use it on single words. I love this monster voice, created from my flute sounds, but having it follow me around - due to the inherent latency, it a bit annoying. A shadowed word or two is ok. Will have to experiment with this.
